In 2017, Chris Nemeth, proprietor of Slippery Beaver Speed & Custom, was on the hunt for the right sound for his 348-powered 1958 Chev Delray. Like many fellow gearheads, Nemeth had run the regular turbo and glass-pack types of mufflers over the years. A challenging mill in many ways, the tri-powered 348 just never sounded right. A call was put out to friends far and wide and one of those friends suggested Porter. A little research revealed some interesting information.

Porter Mufflers was started in 1931 by the Porter brothers in Los Angeles, and for generations the same basic design has proven itself to be the best performance muffler available. When you have a product that’s just about perfect, the worst thing you can do is change it, so we have never felt the need to ‘reinvent the wheel’.

The Original Porter Muffler is handmade using heavy duty 16 gauge aluminized tubing for the original blue Porter series. The stainless steel Porter Muffler is handmade using heavy duty 16 gauge, highly polished aircraft grade, 304 stainless tubing. Porter’s uniquely designed interior chamber is fitted with a gapped steel spring and packed with stainless steel wool to channel the exhaust and make that distinctive Porter Muffler sound. To continue their tradition of quality, each Porter Muffler is handmade using only the best heavy gauge and high quality steel products sourced in the U.S.A.

Nemeth was sold on Porters but to his surprise, Porter Mufflers had never been sold directly in Canada. After some negotiations, “Slippery Beaver Speed & Custom” was born and Porter Mufflers are now carried right here in Waterford, Ontario!
